Did you know that you can add true two-way sms text messaging capability to your favorite email program in as little as 2 minutes and with no setup cost of any kind? In short, all you need to do is to connect to our service from your email client, authenticate yourself and tell our service to send a text message to one or more international SMS numbers. It's the same as if you were to add another email account.
The following tables provide details on how to setup your email client. The process consists of two steps:
Step 1 - Outlook Express,
Eudora, Safari - Create a new email account
You first need to connect to our SMTP server using your ipipi.com
UserName and Password. This is done only once and you will need
to write a few lines of code for your application. The process is
the same as if you were to create a new email account. Your new
email account will use the following details:
SMTP server name | ipipi.com |
User Name | Your ipipi.com user name (the same account you use to login to www.ipipi.com – for example jsmith) |
Password | Your ipipi.com password (for the account you use to login to www.ipipi.com) |
“Sent From” email addresses | Your account name + @ipipi.com (for example jsmith@ipipi.com) It is very important to set this field. Ipipi.com is set up NOT to receive relayed messages and if this value is incorrect the following error message will be generated: “503 Incorrect Authentication for Specified Email Address” |
For Outlook Express, set up a new account using settings as indicated below:
Name the account whatever you want. In this example, it's named "SMS Account". Use your full "username@ipipi.com" email address and password. | Use "ipipi.com" for both Incoming (POP3) and Outgoing (SMTP) Sever Settings: |
Part 2 - Send Text Messages
from Your email client
Every time you want to send a text message you need to create an
email message with the following parameters:
Email field | Description |
“To” | SMS_number_in_international_format@sms.ipipi.com |
“cc” | Leave blank |
“bcc” | Leave blank |
“Subject” | Leave blank |
“Message” | Write the text of the SMS message. Please observe the maximum available number of characters for your account (about 150). You can find out this value from the SMS Settings screen in your ipipi.com account. |
When the message is created, send it using the email account as explained above. The message will come to the ipipi.com server which will try to authenticate your account. If everything has been set up correctly, a credit will be deducted from your account and your message will be converted into SMS and sent to the desired destination - ANYWHERE on the Planet.
